Applying to Jobs or Responding to Invites

Once your expert profile is live and your subscription plan is active, you can start applying for jobs — or receive direct invites from customers. These two actions are your main way to get hired on Hire Local.

Applying to Jobs

Experts can search for jobs posted by customers and submit tailored offers.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Log into your Expert Dashboard
  2. Go to the “Find Jobs” or “Browse Jobs” section
  3. Use filters to narrow down by:
    • Category
    • Location
    • Budget
    • Remote or in-person

4. Click on a job that suits your skills

5. Review the full job description

6. Click “Apply”

7. Fill in your offer

    • Your price (hourly or fixed)
    • Estimated time to complete the job
    • Message to the customer (pitch)

8. Click Submit Offer

Responding to Job Invites

Customers can invite you directly to apply for their jobs if they like your profile.

To respond:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Click on Invitations
  3. View the job you’ve been invited to
  4. Click “Apply” or “Decline”
  5. If applying, fill in your offer and submit

Tips for Better Applications

  • Always personalise your message — explain why you’re the right expert
  • Be honest about your pricing and time
  • Apply quickly — customers often hire the first good expert they hear from
  • Keep it professional and polite

Example Offer Message:

Hi, I’d be happy to help with your kitchen tiling. I’m based in Christchurch and have 7+ years of tiling experience. I can start next week and estimate the job will take two days. My quote includes materials and cleanup.

What Not to Do

  • Don’t spam multiple jobs with copy-paste messages
  • Don’t apply if the job doesn’t match your skills
  • Don’t request payment outside the platform
