Payments & Commissions FAQs

This section explains how payments, commissions, and subscriptions work on the Hire Local platform — for both customers and experts.

1. How do payments work on Hire Local?

When a customer hires an expert, they pay the full amount upfront, including a 5% platform fee.

  • The money is held securely by Hire Local.
  • Once the job is completed and confirmed by the customer, payment is released to the expert via bank transfer (handled manually by the admin).

2. What payment methods can customers use?

Customers can pay using:

  • Bank transfer
  • Stripe (credit/debit card)

Details are provided during checkout.

3. How do experts receive payment?

Experts are paid directly into their bank account after the job is marked completed by the customer and reviewed by the admin. There is no automatic payout system — the admin manually approves and releases payments.

4. Is there a commission fee?

Yes, but only for customers:

  • A 5% platform fee is added on top of the expert’s rate.
  • Experts receive 100% of their listed price.
    This helps cover platform operations and support.

5. Do experts pay any fees?

Experts do not pay commission fees.
Their only cost is the monthly or yearly subscription plan that gives them access to apply for jobs.

6. What if a customer cancels a job after payment?

If the job is cancelled before it starts, the customer may be eligible for a refund (minus any non-refundable transaction costs).
If cancelled during a job, the outcome depends on the stage of completion. Hire Local support will investigate.

7. Can customers get refunds?

Refunds are assessed on a case-by-case basis. See the full Refund Policy for details. Refunds are generally issued when:

  • The expert did not complete the job
  • There is clear evidence of non-performance
  • The customer reports the issue promptly

8. What happens if a payment fails?

If a Stripe or bank transfer fails:

  • The job will not start
  • You’ll be prompted to retry payment
  • Contact support if the issue continues

9. How can I view invoices and receipts?

Invoices and receipts are available in your Dashboard → Billing or Payments section. You’ll also receive email confirmations after each payment.

10. Can experts issue their own invoices?

Yes, but it’s optional. Hire Local automatically tracks all transactions, but experts can upload their own invoices if customers request them — especially for tax or business use.
