Important: this is not legal advice
This information is a practical overview for people using HireLocal in New Zealand. It does not replace legal advice about your own situation. Laws such as the Fair Trading Act 1986, Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, and the Privacy Act 2020 can apply in different ways depending on the facts. If you need guidance tailored to you or your organisation, speak with a New Zealand-qualified lawyer.
Hire Local does not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing or profit. We only share data with trusted service providers who help us operate the marketplace (for example secure payments, hosting, and email delivery), under contracts that protect your privacy, or when the law requires disclosure.
Identity and contact details, profile and account information, booking and payment-related data, messages sent through the platform, device/technical logs, and analytics where enabled. Providers may collect additional information directly from you when performing a job.
To operate the marketplace, authenticate users, process payments (via payment providers), send service notifications, prevent fraud and abuse, comply with law, and improve the product. We do not sell personal information to third parties.
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to and correction of your personal information. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we have interfered with your privacy. Contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern.
We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal and accounting obligations. We use industry-standard safeguards; no online service can guarantee perfect security.
Manage marketing preferences in your account where available. You may request deletion of your account subject to legal retention requirements (e.g. tax and dispute records).
