Terms
These terms explain how HireLocal works for customers and providers.
Overview
Important: this is not legal advice
This information is a practical overview for people using HireLocal in New Zealand. It does not replace legal advice about your own situation. Laws such as the Fair Trading Act 1986, Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, and the Privacy Act 2020 can apply in different ways depending on the facts. If you need guidance tailored to you or your organisation, speak with a New Zealand-qualified lawyer.
HireLocal connects customers with independent service providers. We are not the employer of providers and are not responsible for the manner in which services are performed, except as required by applicable New Zealand law.
Prices are shown in NZD unless stated otherwise. Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. Cancellation, refund, and dispute rules depend on the booking, provider policies, and consumer law — including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies to consumers. Set out your commercial cancellation windows and any non-refundable deposits clearly at checkout and in booking confirmations.
Providers must perform work safely, lawfully, and with appropriate licences or registrations where required in New Zealand. Customers must provide accurate information and safe access. Either party may be suspended for fraud, abuse, or repeated breaches.
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, HireLocal’s liability is limited as set out in your full terms. Nothing in these summaries excludes rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded (including under the Consumer Guarantees Act or Fair Trading Act where they apply).
